70-year-old man allegedly hit by cyclist behind Yishun bus stop, calls for 'dismount and push' sign

A 70-year-old man was allegedly hit by a cyclist behind a bus stop at Yishun Avenue 9.

Stomper Sasi told Stomp the incident happened on June 10 at noon and suggested that a 'dismount and push' sign be installed along the pathway near the bus stop.

The pathway in question is a separated path. According to the National Parks Board's website, such paths are divided into pedestrian and cycling lanes, typically marked with red continuous or dotted lines and feature "PCN" imprints or cyclist icons.

However, areas directly behind bus stops are known as 'attention zones'. These areas are marked with red dotted lines, indicating a shared area for all users.

In these zones, cyclists and personal mobility device (PMD) users are expected to slow down and give way to pedestrians.

Sasi said: "Bus commuters are prone to colliding with cyclists in this area.

"I feel that increased awareness through Stomp will allow for faster action to be initiated."

The Stomper shared that he sustained mild injuries as he was shielded by an umbrella he was holding, and has since made a full recovery.

Ex-director at multiple firms who misappropriated $7 million gets over 3 years' jail

Shaffiq Alkhatib
The Straits Times
June 25, 2025

A former director at multiple firms who misappropriated $7 million was sentenced to three years and six months' jail on June 24.

At the time of the offences in 2014, Lee Boon Teck, 58, was the executive chairman and managing director of investment holding company KLW Holdings (KLWH) - now known as HS Optimus Holdings - and its group of companies.

The Singaporean also held directorships in several companies within the group, including Ambertree and Barang Barang.

When he was charged in 2021, he was no longer a director at HS Optimus Holdings, Ambertree and Barang Barang.

Lee pleaded guilty in May 2025 to one count each of criminal breach of trust and falsification of accounts. Ten other charges were considered during his sentencing.

His case is allegedly linked to that of Chan Ewe Teck, 60, then the sole director and shareholder of a firm called Straitsworld Advisory, which provided consultancy services to other companies.

The Singaporean is now known as Michael ET Chan, and his case is pending.

In earlier proceedings, the prosecution said that Chan began in 2011 to introduce business opportunities for KLWH through Lee.

Among these were projects in Zhangye, China, for the acquisition of a state-owned hotel there and the development of the land surrounding the property.

Deputy public prosecutors Theong Li Han and Kiera Yu stated in court documents that Chan floated the prospect of KLWH's participation in the Zhangye projects to Lee in 2013.

Among other things, Straitsworld and another firm called White Group were supposed to acquire the assets needed for the project linked to the hotel, before reselling the assets to KLWH at a mark-up.

Lee became linked to the Zhangye projects without informing KLWH's board of directors.

The court heard that Chan later told Lee that KLWH had to pay Straitsworld commitment fees totalling $14 million for the Zhangye projects.

In May 2014, Lee handed Chan two cheques addressed to Straitsworld from Ambertree's bank account for a total of $7 million.

He later handed over two more cheques addressed to Straitsworld from KLWH's bank account for a second payment of $7 million.

The prosecutors said that prior to June 21, 2014, Lee told Chan he needed $7.8 million to buy KLWH shares.

Court documents stated that the two agreed that Chan would provide the $7.8 million to Lee as a loan for the share subscription.

However, the deadline to purchase the shares drew near, and Chan could not obtain the full $7.8 million in time, said the DPPs.

They added that Chan and Lee agreed to use $7 million of the commitment fees from KLWH to fund Lee's share subscription first, as a loan.

Lee then misappropriated the amount.

The prosecutors told the court that by about August or September 2014, discussions over the Zhangye projects had broken down and the parties did not enter into "definitive agreements".

On May 6, 2015, KLWH's group financial controller told the company's independent directors that the commitment fees paid by Ambertree over the Zhangye projects were due to be refunded.

Following discussions between Lee and the directors, it was agreed that he would either try to resolve the projects, or obtain a refund of the commitment fees.

Lee met up with Chan on several occasions in attempts to recover the fees. The court heard that Chan told Lee that Straitsworld did not have enough funds to issue the refund.

Lee then proposed that he would pay $7 million to KLWH first on Chan's behalf.

As part of Lee's plan, Straitsworld's remaining obligation to return the other $7 million could be linked to another potential property development project involving Straitsworld, named Project Happy.

Details about this project were not disclosed in court documents.

The prosecutors said Chan agreed with this arrangement, and he provided a personal guarantee that he would be personally liable for the $7 million repayment should Project Happy fail to materialise.

In May 2015, $7 million was transferred to Straitsworld, and this amount was later transferred to KLWH.

The prosecutors said: "Project Happy failed to materialise and, as a result, KLWH commenced legal action in Singapore against Chan for the recovery of the (other) $7 million... Chan was only able to repay $5.75 million... and was made a bankrupt in 2018."

The court heard in May that $12.75 million of the $14 million had been recovered. A sum of $1.25 million remained outstanding.

SINGAPORE - A couple and their two sons who allegedly gave bribes to condominium and property managers to further the interests of their family construction business were charged on June 26.

The family of four includes Ong Chin Kee, 66, and his wife, Lea Lam Moy, 66, who are directors of OCL Building Services.

Their sons, the firm’s project director Jovi Ong Teng Hong, 36, and general manager Jordan Ong Wei How, 30, were also charged.

Each of the four was handed 17 charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

In a statement, the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) said the offences committed by the Singaporeans allegedly occurred between 2018 and 2022 and involved $56,260 in bribes.

According to company records, OCL are primarily general contractors for building construction and major upgrading works, while its secondary business activity is listed as painting and decorating.

Ong Chin Kee was also handed four charges for allegedly obstructing the course of justice, CPIB added.

Between June and November 2023, he had on four occasions allegedly instigated two individuals to change their statements given to the CPIB pertaining to the ongoing investigation against him and OCL.

He had also allegedly informed two others of an investigation by the CPIB against them and the company.

In court on June 26, the lawyer representing each of the four told the court they were contesting the charges.

Their cases were adjourned to July 24 for a pre-trial conference.

Five alleged bribe recipients were also charged on June 26.

They included Lim Pei Xiong, 31, who was a condominium manager at Thomson View Condominium and The Cotz in Telok Kurau.

The Malaysian was handed two corruption charges for allegedly receiving $23,500 in bribes for furthering the business interests of OCL with the two condominiums.

Singaporean Theva Sundram, 71, was handed four corruption charges.

He had allegedly accepted bribes amounting to $20,260 over seven occasions between 2019 and 2022, for furthering the business interests of OCL with The Ladyhill in Tanglin where he was a condominium manager.

Singaporean Roberta Mok Yen Kwei, 40, was handed a corruption charge for allegedly accepting $5,000 in bribes over four occasions in 2022 for furthering the business interests of OCL with Novotel, Flora Vista in Ang Mo Kio and Change Alley Mall at Raffles Place where she was a manager.

Azman Abdul Rahim, 61, a property officer at Craig Place in Outram was handed two corruption charges.

Over three occasions in 2020, the Singaporean had allegedly accepted $3,400 in bribes for furthering the business interests of OCL with the condominium.

Lim Tian Teck, 57, who was a condominium manager at Citylights Condominium in Kallang and Trevista in Toa Payoh, was handed four corruption charges.

The Singaporean had over four occasions between 2018 and 2019 allegedly accepted $2,600 in bribes for furthering the business interests of OCL with the two condominiums.

In court on June 26, Theva, Lim Pei Xiong, Lim Tian Teck and Mok indicated their intention to plead guilty, while Azman said he was undecided, and intended to engage a lawyer.

Two other individuals in connection to this case were also charged with alleged corruption and obstruction of justice offences.

Ong Chin Sin, 64, the sole proprietor of NY Furnishing & Renovation, had allegedly given $4,000 in bribes over three occasions between 2015 and 2022 to Zulkifli Hussain, 60, a senior facilities manager employed by Lasalle College of the Arts to further the business interests of his company with the school.

He is not related to Ong Chin Kee.

In 2023, Ong Chin Sin allegedly obstructed the course of justice by deleting incriminatory messages exchanged between him and Ong Chin Kee that were connected to an ongoing investigation against the former.

Ong Chin Sin and Zulkifli, both Singaporeans, were each handed three corruption charges, while the former was handed a further obstruction of justice charge.

Zulkifli told the court he intended to plead guilty, and had appointed a lawyer who was unable to attend the hearing.

Meanwhile, Ong Chin Sin’s lawyer told the court he had just been appointed and needed time to take instructions from his client.

CPIB said it looks into all corruption-related complaints and reports, including anonymous ones.

The public can make an e-complaint on CPIB’s website, send an e-mail to
